This series of six Opera Cues magazine covers was designed for Houston Grand Opera’s 2024–25 season, with each cover celebrating one of the six operas in the lineup. Each features a striking black-and-white portrait of the lead artist, paired with a vibrant, story-driven collage inspired by the opera’s themes, setting, and cultural influences. The collages incorporate layered imagery — from historical references and architectural elements to symbolic objects and textures — weaving a visual narrative that reflects the unique mood of each production.
The interplay between the monochrome portrait and the bold, colorful collage creates a high-contrast, dramatic effect that mirrors the emotional intensity of opera. On each cover, a single object intentionally overlaps the Opera Cues masthead, adding depth, breaking the frame, and inviting the viewer into the world of the story. Arranged as a series, the covers create a cohesive yet varied visual identity for the season, balancing consistency with individuality.
